Since joining the face book world, I discovered a few
things....
1. I have more friends than I ever did in my life and 2.
They all want to know what I am eating...seriously I am what is known as a
foodie, which sounds so much more special than a glutton, which is what I would
call myself had I been reading all my food posts.
I decided that the time had come to share my wealth of carnivorous
knowledge with the rest of the word by blogging about my one true passion, BBQ
food. Born in Massachusetts you may be
thinking, what does this guy know about Southern BBQ, but trust me, I just do.
In 30 years of work, I had the ability to travel extensively
while using the greatest of all travel aids, the expense account! I was a traveling entertainer of sorts, my
real business was sales, but as anyone if that profession knows, most of the
time is spent wining and dining clients and I did my fair share of both. My liver paid the price for the first part
and my belts continue to this day to carry the burden of the second part.
In those travels I was exposed to every kind of BBQ method
known to man and I tried them all and I now feel it necessary to share my love
and knowledge with you, before my heart finally gives out for good this time.
The day I knew my true call came when I walked into a new BQ
joint that had opened in my area, unfortunately it is no longer there, but the
story lives on. This was a little joint
tucked in between a convenience store and a gas station with little more than a
hand painted sign in the window. Like a
red-tail hawk sizing up the days lucky squirrel, my eyes were drawn to the sign
and my car followed by jumping a curb and stopping in front of said sign.
Inside the store was, in the words of the immortal Harry
Chapin, "a big ol' friendly
girl" dressed in a red and white checkerboard apron. Behind her, the smoke curled around her head
like a southern style halo and immediately I knew I was about to be saved! (can
I get a hallelujah from the congregation?)
Above her saintly smile was a sign that said 1/2 rack special big enough
to feed two for just $14.99 I was sold
at feeds two but I had to ask her, so I did, I said does the half rack really
feed two? She looked around as if she
was about to tell the world's worst off color joke and wanted to make sure no
one else was listening and she said, "Honey, not for people the size of
you and me".
I should have known then that this would be my destiny. To spread the gospel of saint blaze who may
or may not be the patron saint of outdoor cooking, but he sure should have
been!
Please, I invite you all back to The Bone Bag where I will regale
you with my visits to anywhere and everywhere that you see smoke rising and the
smell of hickory in the air. My first
stop will be Willie Jewell's Old School BBQ in Nashua, NH. You don't want to miss this one......
Until then, smoke em if you got em (ribs that is).
